Solar Portable

First off, this projector has great picture quality and operating system. However, save your money and DO NOT purchase the battery powered version. Get the regular Solar and not the Solar Portable. My battery can no longer hold a charge after a year of light use. When I contacted customer service, all they could do was offer me a discount on a new product because I was just outside of the warranty period. They do not even have an option for me to pay to have it repaired. I still use my projector, just sad that I can no longer use it “anywhere” unless I have a power supply. If I could do it over again and was searching for a battery operated projector, I probably would have gone with the competition.

This projector is great for watching movies, tv shows, or even sports once the sun has set. As you would expect with a portable projector, the light isn't quite strong enough for any time before sunset, but once that sun goes down it is really a great viewing experience. The auto-keystone correction feature works really well. The battery probably lasts closer to 2 or 2.5 hours, but I was able to run an extension cord out if I'm watching sports.

The unit is great. Love how quick and simple it is to use. The only downside is the lack of an audio jack. The reason is because when we set it up outside, we like to use headphones so that we don't disturb our neighbors. (There's 2 of us most of the time so we split the jack.) The work around (though I haven't tried) is the use a USC to headphone dongle. And if you are using the USC port to charge already, then you would need to use USB-A to USB-C dongle then attach a USB-C to Headphone. If you want to load movies via the USB-A port, then you can't be charging at the same time. So this is a bit of a pain. If it weren't for that, I would give it 5 stars.

I love it. It’s a great product bright, loud and does what I need. Only problem is the battery started to go 1 month after the warranty ends. Went from consistent three hours to less than 2 I’m about 1 month or 2.

The good:
• So much easier than a conventional projector if you're using it in different locations. Pick it up, take it to the bedroom, stick it on your bedside table, plug it in if you want, and you're almost ready to go (start up is almost instant and autofocusing takes about 3 seconds). The keystone correction is easy (the auto mode only does vertical, but you can switch to manual and adjust the corners to make it perfect quite quickly)
• It's plenty bright enough for my needs, using it a dark room, but of course a conventional projector would be brighter
• Picture is damn good. No, the colors won't pop like on a TV screen but it's impressive for such a unit
• The Android TV interface is easy to use and responsive. Has Amazon Prime Video, YouTube preinstalled and plenty of other apps available in the Play Store (eg Plex). But see Netflix issue, below
• On-board sound is good enough for casual viewing (though not as great as the marketing makes out) and Bluetooth is easy to connect if you need better. I've been using low-latency Bluetooth headphones so not sure if audio lag might be noticeable on regular Bluetooth

The not-so-good
• It has a version of Netflix available pre-sideloaded in the Nebula app but it's not great. Picture is fine but neither the remote not the mobile app give you a way to pause or turn subtitles on, as far as I can see. To pause, you have to just use the back button to take you back to the Netflix menu, from where you can restart the show where you left off by clicking back on its icon. That's an OK workaround, though the UX (designed for mobile users?) doesn't give tend to give you a visual indication of what icon has the focus. No idea how to turn the subtitles on – there doesn't seem a way of navigating to that icon when the show is running. I may investigate if there are other, more smart TV-friendly versions of Netflix that can be sideloaded somehow. By the way, plugging in a FireStick with Netflix on only plays in SD. All some kind of DRM thing, I guess. Frustrating.
• There's no audio-out jack, just Bluetooth, which limits options a little. I don't think I could connect two pairs of headphones at once, for example
• As mentioned, keystone correction is good and pretty quick but if you're regularly using it in two locations with their own keystoning requirements, it would be nice if there were a way of saving keystone settings to a preset
• The marketing says ""Leave that heavy tripod at home"" because of its built-in stand. Well, the kickstand is fine as far as it goes but don't imagine that in most situations you'll be able to just sit it on the floor or even a coffee table. A surface at least a couple of feet high is needed, I'd say. Or else bring out that tripod
• Given that it’s mainly going to be used in the dark it’s a shame the buttons on the remote aren’t lit. Some fumbling, even with a simple set of buttons.
• What a silly name 'Solar' is. I imagine some people will return it after being disappointed that it's not solar-powered after all
